Helen A. (Shepard) Montai, 91

Helen A. (Shepard) Montai, 91, of East Hartford, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Helen was the loving wife to her three predeceased husbands, Wilhelm “Bill” Montai, Antoine T. Babineau, and Charles Hutchinson, Sr.

Born in Greenfield, MA on November 18, 1917, a daughter of the late Raymond and Theresa (Schatz) Shepard, she had resided in East Hartford for over fifteen years. Helen was a very devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed supporting them in any way she could. Besides her beloved husbands and parents, Helen was predeceased by two sons, Jack Hutchinson of Tolland and Raymond Hutchinson of Arizona; a daughter, Marie Colangelo of Hartford; five brothers, Raymond, William, Clarence, Harold, and Howard Shepard; and a sister, Winifred Pasquale.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Poitras of East Hartford with whom she made her home; two sons, Charles Hutchinson, Jr. and his wife, Carole, of Farmington, Antoine F. Babineau and his wife, Deborah, of Lebanon; two sisters, Dorothy Jelley and her husband, Ralph, of Greenfield, MA, Edith Sasai and her husband, Al, of Chicago, IL; eighteen special grandchildren; thirty-five adored great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday (June 13th) at 10 AM at the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Saturday morning from 9 – 10 AM. Memorial contributions in Helen’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 279 New Britain Road, Suite 5, Kensington, CT 06037. Helen’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Helen’s loyal caregiver, Helen DuPerry of East Hartford, and the entire staff at Manchester Memorial Hospital CCU-North 3 for their professionalism, care, love, and compassion given to Helen and her entire family.
