East Hartford Citizens Police Academy graduates 12th class

Interrupted by the pandemic, the town’s Citizen Police Academy returned to action in September.
On Wednesday, Oct. 27 19 members of the community completed their inside the East Hartford Police Dept. experience with a formal graduation at 31 School St.

Twelfth East Hartford Citizens Police Academy class in the Training Room of the Public Safety Complex.

Receiving congratulations from East Hartford Police Chief Scott Sansom were Anne Belanger, Robert Delgado, Laura Diaz, Michelle Enman, Shirley Enman, Grisselle Gonzalez, Edwin Guevara-Aguirre, Michael Haviland, Jalen Jackson, Christine McCabe, Jean Milbrandt, Ruben Nazario, Amanda Ocasio, Maura Pardo, Sarah Pardo, Kathia Parra-Mundo, Oladimeji Sanniola, Christine Sasen, and Alexander Tettey.

The Citizen Police Academy was held every Wednesday night from Sept. 8 through October 27.
After completing the application process, those selected were exposed to policing topics such as the history of the town’s police department, police employment and training, legal standards, patrol and special unit operations, criminal investigations, evidentiary services, use of force, police and the public, and proactive policing efforts.

“A mutual understanding between police and the community is essential, and this academy is a great opportunity to increase that level of understanding,” stated Chief Sansom. “The interest and enthusiasm of the class during this program inspires us to continue with it. We’re already looking forward to announcing plans for the next session,” Sansom added.
