Hurricane Henri hits town with rain, winds

Hurricane Henri was downgraded to a tropical storm Sunday morning. The impact of the storm remains significant, with potential rainfall up to 10 inches. Town employees continue to monitor the progression of this storm and stand ready to address the needs of our community.

“I have fully opened the Town’s Emergency Operation Center and staff is closely monitoring the progress of the storm, in anticipation of weather-related damages,” said Mayor Marcia Leclerc.

We anticipate heavy rains will overwhelm the already saturated grounds and our storm-water drainage system. As rivers, streams and tributaries rise, they will present significant urban flooding.  As waters recede overtime, the roads will begin to drain. Our Public Works staff are monitoring the situation and will place precautionary signage as waters rise. We are asking the public to remain at home and avoid driving over any standing water, as its depth can be deceiving. When it doubt, “TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN.”
