Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Knose

Elizabeth Mankauskas Knose, the loving wife of William Thornley Knose, passed away at home on September 3, 2023.

She leaves behind her husband of 57 years; her son, William T. Knose Jr. and his wife Kasey; and her two beloved grandchildren, Liam and Connell Knose.

Born in Derby, CT December 2, 1940 she spent her childhood years in Ansonia, going on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Smith College, Northampton MA. She went to work for United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) in East Hartford where she met and married her husband, William. The couple resided in Tolland for several years. While at UTRC, Elizabeth attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated with a master’s degree in Computer Science.

After 10 years, Betty left UTRC to devote full time to raising her son, William Jr. She and her family moved to East Hartford in 1981 where she joined St. Isaac Jogues church, becoming an active member of the Ladies Guild, and serving as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. She continued volunteering with her church after the parishes of St. Rose and St. Mary’s merged to become the Catholic Community of East Hartford North, then North American Martyrs Parish. Betty was also very active as a member of the Historical Society of East Hartford, serving as publisher of the newsletter for many years.

She was predeceased by her brother Joseph J. Mankauskas Jr., her mother, Stephanie Rolinaitis Mankauskas, and her father, Joseph J. Mankauskas Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Betty will take place at 10 a.m. Sept. 15, 2023 at St. Rose Church, 33 Church St., East Hartford.
