Alan R. Lussier, 82, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Linda A. (Tyrrell) Lussier, died peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2023 at home, surrounded by his family.

Al Lussier

Alan was born in Springfield, MA, on June 30, 1941, son of the late Raymond and Alberta (Wemette) Lussier. He grew up in Chicopee, MA and was a graduate of Chicopee High School. Alan was a talented athlete and excelled in football, basketball and baseball. Alan is a member of the Chicopee High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Alan went on to play football, basketball and baseball at American International College. Upon graduating from college with a degree in education, he took a teaching job with the Tolland public schools. One year later, Alan went to work at East Hartford High School where he taught math, chaired the math department and worked as athletic director over his 35-year career.

In his retirement, Alan returned to teaching at East Catholic High School for 9 years. Alan was a beloved baseball and football coach and led two East Hartford High School baseball teams to state titles. Alan was an avid pitch and bridge player. He loved to read non-fiction, mentored and volunteered at Timothy Edwards Middle School, and was a member and volunteer of the South Windsor Senior Center. He enjoyed family vacations to Newfound Lake, NH every August, and cherished trips he made with his wife to Alaska and Hawaii. Alan’s eight grandchildren, who he called his “special packages” were a tremendous source of joy to him. He lovingly cheered them on from the side lines at thousands of games over the years. A kind, caring, loving, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many, he hugged big, enjoyed telling stories, many of which would bring a tear to his eye, and popped over his kids’ homes often to visit with his grandkids or help them with math homework. Alan will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Along with his wife of over 58 years, Linda, he leaves his children, Toby Lussier and his wife Keri of SC, Carrie Sarra of South Windsor, Jamie Lussier and his wife Debra of West Suffield; his grandchildren, Tory Lussier, Derek Lussier and his wife Lindsey, Morgan Lussier, Madison Sarra, Tyler Sarra, Julia Sarra, Isabelle Lussier, and Trevor Lussier; his great-grandchildren, Poppy, and Beau; his brothers, Vern Lussier and his wife Cindy of MA, Roland Lussier and his wife Sue of Westfield, MA; his sister-in-law, Kaye Woinicki of North Carolina, and his sister-in-law and friend, Janet Lussier of Ware, MA.
